Vendor Maintenance & Repair Services

If departmental research or laboratory equipment is under warranty, you should contact the manufacturer for service. Some highly specialized equipment, such as self-contained bio hoods and cyclotrons, must be serviced by an authorized manufacturer’s representative. GBSF autoclaves are covered by a maintenance contract with Tuttnauer USA, through 6/30/08. Service requests can be phoned in directly to Gerald Brester at 510-774-0790 or 800-624-5836. GBSF dishwashers are covered by a maintenance contract with Steriquip, Inc., through 6/30/08. Service requests can be phoned in directly to Greg Drummond at 530-902-4005. Gas bottles, tanks, and their manifolds are serviced by the vendor. If these are connected to the building infrastructure and you suspect the source of the problem may be in the infrastructure, you may want to contact O&M first (752-1655), as vendors are not able to evaluate and repair building infrastructure. Recycling

Desk Recycling

Desk minibins hook onto your trash can, converting the trash can to a mixed paper recycling can. The minibin is then used for other trash. The Custodial Staff will empty the minibin twice weekly (see Custodial Schedule) and the R4 Staff will empty the mixed paper recycling can weekly. Desk recycling bins help preserve our natural resources and reduce solid waste. They can be ordered through the O&M Customer Support Center. R4 will also provide an orientation to their use.

Confidential Document Disposal

Arrangements can be made through Viking Shred, an off-campus confidential paper disposal vendor with whom the University has established a central purchasing agreement. Contact Viking Shred at 916-320-5575 or (http://www.vikingshred.com).

Recycling Services

The R4 Recycling Program (http://r4.ucdavis.edu) provides containers and collects mixed paper, cardboard, cans, plastic, and bottles. Extra collections can be arranged through the O&M Customer Support Center (752-1655). R4 Recycling will also pick up Styrofoam and reusable wooden pallets.
  • Cardboard: Cardboard may be recycled at the many cardboard recycling dumpsters on campus. The nearest cardboard recycling bin is located on the GBSF Receiving Dock (west side of building).
  • Dry cell and nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries:can be recycled at drop off locations at the Memorial Union, Haring Hall, and the Primate Center. Please do not dispose of batteries in the trash, as they can leak and cause environmental hazard.
  • Arrangements can be made through EH&S (752-1493) for disposal of automotive and motorcycle batteries and uninterruptible power supplies.

Salvage Material Management

Material Management will pick up and dispose of unwanted and surplus material and equipment, and complete the required paperwork. Call 752-2145 to arrange for pickup service. There is no charge for this service if the item can be sold, transferred to another campus department, or marketed to the public. If the item cannot be resold through the Bargain Barn, a recharge will be made to the originating department in order to fund the cost of pickup and disposal. Refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges must be decommissioned (Freon removed) by O&M prior to pickup by Materiel Management. Contact the O&M Customer Support Center at 752-1655 to arrange decommissioning. Lab equipment must be decommissioned by the PI and the GBSF Safety Officer. Once this has been performed, the equipment can be salvaged through Materiel Management. Return to top.
